ABF Future Immortals Bring Inspiration to Kowanyama State School
The first full day of the ABF Future Immortals Tour in Kowanyama was all about connection — and it started at Kowanyama State School, where the team spent the morning meeting students, joining activities, and sharing stories.
From the moment the players walked through the gates, they were met with big smiles, waves, and a few curious questions from the kids. The oval and ball courts quickly turned into hubs of excitement as our player partners joined in on everything from ballgames to bullrush.
Principal Janine Harrison said the visit was about more than just sport. “When the kids see these players here, it’s not just about rugby league — it’s about showing them what’s possible. It builds confidence, encourages healthy choices, and reminds them that their dreams are worth chasing,” she said.
The tour also gives the wider community a boost. “Events like this lift the whole town,” Janine added. “It’s something we all look forward to, and it leaves a lasting impact long after the players head home.”
Our player partners took time to chat one-on-one with students, offering advice, sharing laughs, and talking about their journeys. There were plenty of handshakes, high-fives, and even a few impromptu video interviews led by the students on the oval.
As Day 1 came to a close, it was clear that the tour was already achieving its goal — bringing people together, sparking inspiration, and celebrating the strength of the Kowanyama community.
