ABF Future Immortals Light Up Kowanyama with Clinics, Footy and Community Spirit
Saturday in Kowanyama was a big one! The ABF Future Immortals Tour delivered a full day of rugby league and community.
The morning kicked off with kids’ clinics at the Kowanyama Football Field, where young players ran drills, sharpened their skills, and enjoyed one-on-one time with our player partners. There was no shortage of energy as the kids tore up the field, laughing, learning, and taking in every bit of advice from the Future Immortals.
By the afternoon, the spotlight turned to the local footy games. Kowanyama and Pormpuraaw went head-to-head in a fierce contest that had the crowd on its feet. The hits were tough, the competition was hot, and the roar from the sidelines showed just how much the game means to the community.
As the sun dipped lower, it was time for the Future Immortals community match. Our player partners laced up alongside the locals, creating mixed teams that embodied the spirit of the tour. It wasn’t about the scoreboard; it was about mateship, respect, and celebrating the game that unites people. Every tackle, every try, and every cheer from the stands carried a sense of pride that stretched beyond the field.
The day ended with smiles, handshakes, and plenty of stories shared, proving once again that footy is more than a game in Kowanyama — it’s a bridge between generations, communities, and cultures.
The ABF Future Immortals thank our player partners, the Kowanyama Aboriginal Shire Council, ASICS, UNSW, and Rebel Sport for powering this unforgettable day.
