Community, Connection and Conversation at Mulungu Health Service
As part of the Future Immortals Tour in Mareeba, the Arthur Beetson Foundation team had the privilege of spending the evening at the Men’s Group hosted by the team at Mulungu Health Service.
What unfolded was far more than just a gathering. It was an opportunity for people from different backgrounds, generations and experiences to come together in a welcoming and supportive environment built on connection, culture and community.
Throughout the evening, Foundation ambassadors and former rugby league players sat alongside local community members, sharing stories, experiences, laughter and conversations. There were no barriers, no expectations and no spotlight on anyone in particular — just genuine human connection.
For many of the players, these moments are among the most meaningful parts of the tour. While coaching clinics and community events provide opportunities to engage with young people, evenings like this allow for deeper conversations and a chance to listen, learn and better understand the communities they are visiting.
The event was filled with respect and a strong sense of belonging. It was a reminder that some of the most powerful impacts happen away from the football field.
The Arthur Beetson Foundation has always believed that sport can be a vehicle for connection, but connection itself is what leaves the lasting legacy. Bringing people together, creating safe spaces for conversation and strengthening community relationships remains at the heart of the Future Immortals Tour.
A sincere thank you to the team at Mulungu Health Service for their hospitality and for creating a space where these important conversations can take place. The warmth, generosity and community spirit shown throughout the evening made it a memorable experience for everyone involved.
As the tour continues across the region, moments like this serve as a powerful reminder of why the Future Immortals Tour exists — to connect people, share experiences and leave a positive impact long after the final whistle.
