Creativity, Culture and Connection Shine at Mareeba Women’s Hat Burning Workshop
Women from across the Mareeba community came together for an evening of creativity, culture, and meaningful conversation during a special Hat Burning Workshop held at the Mareeba Heritage and Cultural Centre as part of the Arthur Beetson Foundation Future Immortals Tour.
Delivered by It’s Just A Vibe Creative Studio in partnership with Mulungu Health Service, the workshop provided an opportunity for women of all ages to connect, learn, and express themselves through creativity in a welcoming and supportive environment.
While each participant created a unique piece to take home, the lasting impact of the evening extended far beyond the artwork itself.
The workshop created a space where conversations flowed naturally, stories were shared, and relationships were strengthened across generations. Elders played an important role throughout the evening, sharing their knowledge, experiences, and perspectives while younger women listened, learned, and contributed their own stories.
The atmosphere was filled with laughter, encouragement, and genuine connection as participants gathered around tables to yarn, create, and spend time together.
